In the early stages of ones faith, the first question at hand is typically, “What can God do for me?” but as ones faith grows and our perspectives change, one should start asking themselves, “What can God do through me?”
Haggai 1:1 – “…The Lord gave a message through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.”
Now God didn’t state that the message came from Haggai but through Haggai because God will use others to get His point across.
The scripture goes on to say in Haggai 1:3-6 – “Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!”
“Any process that does not start with God will end in dissatisfaction”
Keep God as your foundation – have the faith and place your needs in God’s hands first and He will sustain you! Here’s a wake up call: sometimes the devil will tell you that you are being patient when you are really procrastinating. If he can keep you mistaking patience with procrastination then he can keep you locked out of the blessing that is just on the other side of your obedience. (S.F.)
Can you imagine a world with God at our center and making the choice to obediently follow His instruction? If you ask your neighbor, “What do you want for your life?”, would they not respond with, “Happiness”? We all want to live happy lives with our families that are abundantly rich with love and laughter, right? So why is it so hard for us to live side by side doing this very thing? God intended for us to live peacefully with one another. He left us with simple guidelines and an instruction manual full of His love stories and yet, we choose to disregard His word because man wrote it down. Listen, these fears and doubts are the exact tools that our enemy will use against us – to keep us from our blessings and to keep us from our Heavenly Father. We are not one another’s enemy. God is not our enemy. Satan will allow the sowing of the seeds but it is during the outreach and the breakthrough that he will try to step in and destroy. Do not allow him to step in. Resist and keep God in focus – let’s keep God at our center and watch what He can do!
If we keep mistaking our procrastination for patience, we’ll never get anywhere; we’ll never get anything done. For example, say you are out of work. You have faith that God has a plan for you and that you’ll find work BUT you’re not actively looking for work. This is not patience. This is procrastination. This is faith without works which is useless. James 2:17 – “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Wake up! Get your head in the game. Refocus. YES, God has a plan for you – OF COURSE HE HAS A PLAN! He has all that we need within our reach – His only request is that WE REACH OUT. He wants us to engage with Him.
Take a moment to think – how often do you sit down to pay your bills and somehow you’re barely scraping by? Does it seem just like the scripture says: “Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!” Is it simple and we’re living outside of our means in a plastic world or is it because we don’t obediently seek God first?
Is it Patience or Procrastination? “We’ll tithe when we have more money – we’ll put God first then.” Meanwhile… “Yes, I’ll have a Venti Vanilla Latte. Hot w/ skim milk, please.” It’s funny how we can piece together pocket change for a coffee but we struggle to offer that to our Heavenly Father, our creator who breathed life into our lungs. Why is that?
And it doesn’t even have to be about the tithes. What about serving? Sometimes it’s just so hard to commit to volunteering your time to serve others; to allow the opportunity for God to work through you. Let’s come together and make a change this week. What can you do this next week to serve others? To make a difference in someone’s life? To be a blessing? Go out there this week and live it out❤
With Love in Christ,
Thank you for always being what we need before we even ask. I pray this week for your loving guidance to lead us according to your will. I pray for your encouragement that we may keep our eyes focused and our hearts steady. No matter what tomorrow may bring, I pray that we lean into your loving embrace; that we remember to seek you first. Be the calm in our storms. May we shed our worries, diminish our doubt, and let go of our fears by trusting you. Give us new sight that our blinders of procrastination fall to the side. I pray that we all make the decision this week to reach out and accept all that you are offering us. In your name, I pray – Amen.
