Even if you are not a daily reader of the Bible, most have heard about a man named Moses who was called to free his people. You may recall within his story something about a burning bush. If you are unfamiliar with the details, I’m going to fill you in that God spoke to Moses through that burning bush. Like any normal person would be, Moses was fearful. He was fearful not because he was witnessing a bush that was on fire and not being consumed; he was fearful because he was afraid to look at God; to be in the presence of God while he was still a sinner. Take note that even in our sin, God will still use us to fulfill His purpose. He will use us wherever we are; no matter what season we are in; all we have to be is willing.
As the scripture continues, Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I Am Who I Am…tell them I Am has sent you.” – Exodus 3:13-14. Pastor Steven Furtick put it this way in his sermon “Danger In the Distance” – In this, God said without saying, I Am ________… fill in the blank with whatever you need because whatever you need comes next. God went on to say, I Am will not change but what we need in different seasons of our lives will change therefore I Am will be whatever we need before we even know what we need.
God is the only one who simultaneously knows what we need and is what we need ❤
If you have been following along with my blogs, you’ll know that I’ve mentioned the new movie The Shack on multiple occasions. I’ve heard that there has been a lot of misunderstanding regarding God being played by a woman in this movie. Some have taken this to mean that God is a goddess, which just makes me smile. Let me clear the air on this subject by looking right in Exodus. In the scene where Mac first meets Papa (the woman) he is clearly confused but the script goes on to clearly state that Mac didn’t need a father in that moment and therefore “I Am that I Am” – I Am what you need me to be.
Throughout the scriptures, God fills in the blank in many ways: “I Am Love”, “I Am Sovereign”, “I Am Forgiving”. He even states that He is Vengeful and a Jealous God. Mark 1:40 states, “A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. ‘If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean’, he said”. Now this is one of my favorites that isn’t highlighted very often. The scripture goes on to say in Mark 1:41 – Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man…
“I Am Willing”
To me, God is my foundation. He is like coming home after being away for a while. He is my comfort and my peace. He is my strength. He is my provider and my way maker. He is my healer. He is my light in the darkness. He is my patience. He is my forgiveness. He is my focus and my reference point. He is my overcomer; my Lord and Savior.
I urge you to ask yourself, ‘Who is God to you?’ If you do not have an answer for this question, please contact me – I’d love the opportunity to talk with you & pray for you.
With love in Christ,
